Deniss Vasiljevs

Deniss Vasiljevs made history at the 2022 European Championships. He was the first Latvian ice skater to win a bronze medal at an ISU Championship and had two outstanding, faultless performances.

The Latvian discovered his love of ice skating by chance. His parents preferred other forms of sport. They encouraged him to take more exercise; he was too small, however, for swimming lessons. As he liked crawling around on the ice he chose ice skating. Years later, he proved that this was the right decision, as he has now been the Latvian champion four times.

“It’s a big achievement when you decide to go your own way. You make up your mind and follow your passion. It gives you self-confidence that your own decisions can lead to achievements”, says Vasiljevs.
