Ilia Malinin
The Quad God
He has every reason to call himself the “quad god”. When Ilia Malinin jumps, he makes even the most difficult moves, such as quadruple jumps, look easy. The American made figure skating history in 2023 when the then 17-year-old was the first person to land a quadruple axel cleanly in a competition. Even a genius like double Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu has attempted this element with four-and-a-half rotations several times in competition and failed each time.
Malinin won the silver medal in his first appearance at the US Elite Championships in the 21/22 season. After that, nobody in his own country could come close to equalling him. And last March, the time had come globally!
This exceptionally talented skater was practically born into the sport, as his parents were already ice skaters and are now part of his coaching team. In February, the current world champion will be demonstrating his skills for the third time at Art on Ice. Fans can look forward to seeing the 19-year-old jumping wonder live on tour again.
