Satoko Miyahara
World Championship medal winner from Japan
Satoko Miyahara has played a very important role in Japanese ice skating. Around six months ago, the 24-year-old announced her retirement with the following words: “I could perform while embracing that sensation of skating on my own two feet. My sense of achievement outweighs my regrets.” The Japanese skater has not hung up her boots, however, but will continue to thrill audiences with her gracefulness and expression on the show ice.
Miyahara became the Japanese champion for the first time in 2015 and then made her debut at the World Championships in Shanghai, where she immediately won the silver medal. Miyahara won a silver medal again in Marseilles at the Grand Prix finale of the 2016/17 season. In 2018 Miyahara won the bronze medal at the Four Continents Championship in Taipei, and narrowly missed out on a medal at the Olympic Games, coming fourth. She won the bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships, however. In subsequent years, Miyahara had further successes in ISU Grand Prix series competitions, winning a gold medal at Skate America 2018 and silver medals at the NHK Trophy 2018 and the Cup of China 2019.
